According to the Skytrax World Airport Awards, the Southeast Asian airport, famed for its extravagant features including a rock climbing wall and a butterfly garden, won the top honour for the 12th time in 2023 after briefly losing it to Qatar’s Hamad International Airport in 2021 and 2022. The best airport eating and entertainment options in the world were both found at Singapore’s airport.
For the eighth year in a row, the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport hotel also took home the prize for best airport hotel.
The Changi Airport Group’s CEO, Lee Seow Hiang, said in a statement, “This recognition is wonderful encouragement to our airport community, who stood strongly together to face the problems of Covid-19 during the previous two years. “To our customers… As we broaden our options to reimagine the Changi Experience, your continuing support motivates us to keep striving for service excellence. As we rediscover the thrill of travelling once more, we are looking forward to welcoming everyone to Changi Airport.
Although dropping to second place, Hamad International Airport retained its titles as the greatest airport in the Middle East, the best airport in the Middle East, and the best airport in the world (in addition to having one of the best airport lounges in the world).
Then came the airports in Seoul’s Incheon, Tokyo’s Haneda, and Paris’s Charles de Gaulle.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in the US was rated the best airport in North America. The Terminal B at LaGuardia Airport was also recognised as the greatest brand-new airport terminal in the world and got a 5-Star certification from Skytrax.
“Our goal at the Port Authority was to completely transform the customer experience at LaGuardia, from curb to gate, by building a brand-new, world-class airport,” Rick Cotton, the executive director of the Port Authority, said in a statement. “Winning this prestigious award and becoming the first North American airport terminal to receive a 5-star rating from Skytrax proves that we have accomplished what many once said was impossible: elevate LaGuardia from worst to best.”
