A park official announced on Thursday that Yosemite National Park, which has been closed due to extreme snowfall for almost two weeks, will stay closed until March 17.
The park’s closure has been prolonged through next Thursday owing to another storm system headed near California, which was supposed to reopen the park on Monday, March 13.
Yosemite National Park spokeswoman Scott Gediman stated, “We love the guests, and we want the people back so we’re clearing the roads and attempting to prepare.
In addition to other duties, park staff have been hard at work clearing snow from rooftops, examining the stability of trees, and digging out fire hydrants and propane tanks.
If everything goes according to plan, hopefully we can welcome guests back on St. Patrick’s Day, said Gediman. We just feel that at this time we need to be practical, even if it is only a partial reopening.
